Pea Snap Sugar Daddy Seeds (LG)

Pea Snap Sugar Daddy Seeds (LG)

Pisum sativum

Item #7314

66-72. Sugar Daddy peas were bred by Dr. Calvin Lamborn, the innovative research director that developed the first edible-podded snap pea, Sugar Snap. However, Sugar Daddy has some big improvements- stringless pods, shorter vines and improved disease resistance. Slender, 3" pods have a deep green color adding to their appeal. The short plants reach only 24" to 30" tall and don't need support, however, a short fence or trellis will make it easier to find and harvest the crunchy peas. Pods can be served fresh with dip, stuffed with cream cheese or added to salads. Add to stir-fries and soups, or steam for a delicious vegetable. Resistant to powdery mildew and tolerant to bean leaf roll virus.

This packet sows three 10-foot rows.

When to sow outside: RECOMMENDED. 4 to 6 weeks before average last frost or as soon as soil can be worked. Soil temperatures must be above 40°F. In USDA zones 8 or warmer, sow in fall or winter for winter harvest.

When to start inside: Not recommended. Special sowing & germination instructions: Soak seed in water for 12 to 24 hours before sowing.

Harvesting: Snap peas should be harvested when the pods are plump. Peas that are too mature will cause the plant to stop producing; therefore, harvest daily. Use scissors to harvest or hold vine with one hand and pick the pods with the other, as the vines are brittle.
